Setting the Right Goals

I hope this post finds you well! I talked a little bit about this on my stories yesterday, but I wanted to go a little bit more into detail about setting the right goals in order to succeed.  Soo, here we go!

The first step in setting the right goals is to figure out exactly what you want and why you want it.  Passion and purpose play such a huge role when it comes to finding success.  If you have goals that you are passionate about you are so much more likely to succeed.  

The second part of setting the right goals is knowing what kind of goals to set.  We all have heard of SMART goals before, which are important, but not what I am going to talk about today.  Today I want to talk about performance/action oriented goals versus outcome oriented goals.

Performance oriented goals are goals that are based on your performance (something you have direct control over).  Setting these types of goals will allow you to push yourself and stay motivated a lot easier.

Outcome oriented goals are goals that are just based on results (something you don't always have control over).  When you set outcome oriented goals you can get frustrated easily when you don't reach your goals.  Even if you do everything YOU can, that doesn't always mean you will reach your goals if they are outcome oriented because there are other factors involved that are out of your control.

Don't set your goals based on a "prize" that you can't always control.  When part of your goal is based on outside factors, you are much more likely to fail and be discouraged.  Base your goals off of things that are completely in your control.  And although both ways might lead you to the same place, when you have action oriented goals YOU can control every step along the way.
