Controlling the Controllable

Happy Wednesday!  What a beautiful day to be alive!

Today I want to share with you guys one of my biggest tips to relieving stress and living in the moment: CONTROLLING THE CONTROLLABE.  Basically, only worry about things YOU have control over.  It is pointless to worry about things you can't control because you are raising your stress levels for something you can't do anything about.  We spend so much time worrying about other people and what they are doing, coming up with hypothetical situations in our heads about what might happen, and letting them affect how we act and feel.

The ONE thing we can control is ourselves.  In having control of ourselves we have control over our thoughts and actions.  We can control our attitude...What is your attitude when something negative happens?  No matter the circumstance you always have a choice on what your attitude is.  Having a positive attitude will lead you to growth and success.

We have control over our response to any situation.  Think back to a time when something bad happened to you.  How did you choose to respond?  Did you let something little make you really angry and upset?  Did you let someone else affect how you were feeling?  As much as we don't like to admit it, no one else can affect how we feel and our response to everything that happens in our lives.  When we choose to have a good response to situations we will be able to have a better outcome.

You have control over what you do.  You have control over how hard you work.  How hard you work will have a direct connection to what your outcome is.  The harder you work the better outcome.  It's that simple.  If you want something, work for it.

Set goals that revolve around things you control.  When you set goals that you don't have direct control over you will feel defeated when you don't reach them and they will cause you to stress more BECAUSE YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THEM.  If you want to lower your stress and be successful then only focus on things YOU can do.

Things you can control:

  • your effort
  • your preparation
  • your fitness
  • your nutrition
  • your sleep
  • your body language
  • your reaction

Things you can't control:

  • the weather
  • what your spouse does
  • the opposing team
  • when you are given a test/quiz
  • other peoples actions
  • if your flight is delayed
  • someone cutting you off
  • the list goes on and on!!!

The power of letting go of things you can't control is HUGE!  You will be setting yourself free.  If you can't control it, what is the point of worrying about it??

Thanks for stopping by!
