Why Do You Workout?

Would you still exercise even if if didn't affect how you look???  I know this is a weird question to ask, but really think about it!  Is the main reason you exercise to look good?  That's not a bad thing, but there are so many other benefits of exercising that have nothing to do with appearance.

For me, the biggest reason I exercise is because it is an emotional outlet.  Whether I am mad, sad, angry, depressed or whatever it may be I know that when I walk out of the gym I am going to feel 100 times better than I did when I walked in.  I use my workout to get out all of that stress or anger or sadness.  I use it as fuel to work hard and let my emotions out.  Exercising is an escape for me.  I leave all of my worries and struggles at the door.  When I walk into the gym I know that my problems temporarily go away.  I can focus on having a good workout and when I leave my mind is in a much better place.  I can more easily make good decisions rather than saying or doing something rash.

Exercising makes me feel strong and empowered.  I am doing things in the gym that I never thought I would be able to do!  When I walk out of the gym after crushing a tough workout I feel SO GOOD.  There is no better feeling than doing something you thought you couldn't do.  I love setting goals and pushing myself to achieve them.  I love feeling strong.  When I feel strong I feel like I can conquer the rest of the day no matter what comes my way.  Exercising makes me feel like I can do anything I set my mind to (in AND out of the gym).

When I exercise I am more productive throughout the day and make better choices.  Exercising gives me the energy (physically and emotionally) to get things done.  I don't get as much done on days I don't work out.  That's it.  Period.  I know that if I exercise (even on a busy day) I will be able to get more done.  I am also able to make better lifestyle choices (whether it's food, activities, etc.) when I workout.  When I workout I feel good.  And when I feel good I am more willing to do other things that will help me to keep feeling good.  Whereas if I don't make it to the gym I feel sluggish and I am more likely to do things that make me feel more sluggish.

I am happier.  No explanation needed.  I am a happier person when I exercise.

Exercising is my time to focus on me and better myself.  With work, church, family, the gym is my time for me.  It's time for me to focus on myself and put myself first.  When it comes to bettering  yourself you CAN be selfish.  Because the more time you spend becoming a better person the more you are going to be able to help other people.  But if you want to help other people, you first have to help yourself.  And for me, working out is where I feel like I am bettering myself the most.

Why do you workout???

I encourage you to think about the reasons you workout.  Looks are great don't get me wrong. But they aren't everything.  Find a reason to workout that is not just about physical looks. Once your find your "why" you will be able to use it to your advantage and stay disciplined even on days you aren't motivated.

Thanks for stopping by!
