The Key to Nutrition

Good morning! I hope this week is treating you well!

Today I want to talk about something that I know most people can relate to (even myself)...the struggle of eating healthy!  Now, I'm not going to sit here and tell you you can't eat donuts, pizza, or ice cream because let's face it, those are my favorite foods and it is so unrealistic for me to try and cut them out.  I think many of you can relate to this whether your weakness is chocolate, candy, burgers, or whatever else!  If you try to completely cut them out of your "diet" all you are doing is eventually setting yourself up for failure and disappointment.  This failure and disappointment then leads to even more unhealthy eating.  So today I am sharing with you the key to good nutrition.  BALANCE!!!  I cannot stress this word enough!

If it's Friday, and you know you are going out to dinner that night then have a healthy breakfast and lunch so that you can splurge a little bit on dinner.  When I know that we are having pizza, or burgers or something else not so healthy for dinner I try to eat foods low in fat and carbs the rest of the day since I know I will be getting plenty of them at dinner time.  Now, this doesn't necessarily mean go out to dinner every night, but you should let yourself splurge every once in a while.

One of my all time favorite foods are donuts.  If you know me, then you will understand!  I don't cut donuts out of my "diet" fact I have two sprinkled donuts every single week.  Do I feel guilty about it?? Absolutely not!!  Because I know that if I cut donuts of out my life I am going to be miserable!

The key to good nutrition is having balance.  Yes, it is very important to get your fruits, veggies, and protein, but if you're craving ice cream on a Saturday night after eating healthy all week...HAVE SOME ICE CREAM! Try and untrain your mind from thinking there are "bad foods" and "good foods".  Yes, there are going to be foods that are better for you, but don't feel guilty about getting a slice of pizza with the girls on a Friday night.  And if you think you are the only one who can't control themselves and end up eating the whole tub of ice cream, you're wrong! I am willing to bet almost everyone who is reading this has done it more times then they would like to admit.  It is completely normal.  Set some goals for yourself...realistic goals!  Try your hardest to accomplish them.  If you do, great! That's awesome, keep setting more goals!  If you fall short, don't put yourself down.  It is completely normal, don't fall into a rut.  Pick yourself up and keep working hard.  Don't let one little setback completely derail you.

I know I ranted on for a wile, but I really want you to know the importance of balance in a healthy diet.  Treat yourself every once in a while, and don't feel guilty about it.  Even if you are trying to lose weight it is important to set realistic goals when it comes to nutrition.  It's time to stop setting yourself up for failure and start setting yourself up for success! You are beautiful.  You are worth it! And you are normal if you can't have just one those cookies on the plate!

Love you all! Work hard and do your best this week! Make yourself proud!

XO, Kenz
