My favorite days at the gym are back days and leg days. I love these days because I love to push myself as hard as I can and I secretly love feeling like I might die after a crazy intense workout. I like to wait for days where I feel 110% and in the zone to train back or legs so that I can get the most out of my workout and be ready to push myself. Well here is the problem…those days don’t come around too often. Most days I don’t show up to the gym ready to smash, crush, or demolish my workout. Most days I just feel normal. And on those normal days instead of doing a back or leg workout I find something else to train because I don’t feel ready for it. But because I wait for my body to feel ready I end up not training back and legs AT ALL (which is ridiculous because they are my two favorites).
Am I here to talk about training back and legs? No. I am here to tell you that you do not need to feel ready in order to start. Just start. Whatever it my be…maybe it is a leg workout, or maybe its starting your own business, writing a book, going back to school, or building a desk for your new office. Odds are if you start you are going to figure it out (maybe not the first time or the second time, but if you are persistent you will get it done). If you wait to feel ready in order to start you are going to end up waiting the rest of your life, then you are going to look back and wish that you had just started.
Now, I know what you are telling yourself…I’m not smart enough, I don’t know enough about this topic, there are other people who know more about this than me, I can’t afford it, what if I fail??—trust me, i’ve heard them all because I have told myself all of these before. But guess what…you will never feel 100% ready. And if you never try you are going to always wonder what could have been (and I am going to tell you right now that failure feels a WHOLE lot better than regret).
So, start today. You don’t have to do it all today, but start today. Make one move that will push you in the direction that you want to go. With each step in the right direction you will help build confidence in yourself and your abilities. Whatever the world says, whatever that little voice in your head says, no matter how crazy your dreams are…KEEP PUSHING FORWARD. I promise all the blood, sweat, and tears will be worth it.
